This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and I want to take a few moments to recognize the incredible teachers and staff at NCS who make our school such a great place. They are here to support students, help them reach their full potential, and create a caring, positive environment.
NCS teachers go far beyond the classroom—spending time on Fridays, leading extended summer learning experiences, organizing college and career visits, attending weekend field trips, attending sporting events and powwows, just to name a few. The staff at NCS create engaging lessons and build meaningful relationships that truly make a difference. Their dedication and patience does not go unnoticed.
Students, parents/guardians and community members, I encourage you to take a moment this week to say “thank you,” write a note, comment on our social media, or simply show your appreciation in a meaningful way. Small gestures can make a big impact.
To the NCS “9” thank you for everything you do. I appreciate you today and everyday.

All NCS students are encouraged to help TERF with the Earth Day clean up. Help clean up your community, earn service hours and enjoy a free lunch.
This was a planned day and everything and everyone at NCS is well.
Tomorrow Monday April 20th Nixyaawii Community School will be closed. We are having a mental heath/professional day. We wish all the students and staff well and we will see you on Tuesday.
NCS would like to thank Yellowhawk Behavioral Health staff for facilitating the Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) today. GONA is a mini wellness workshop rooted in Indigenous values designed to strengthen protective factors and promote cultural identity. All NCS students were invited to join along with potential incoming freshmen from Sunridge Middle School. Great job to all the students who participated today.
Our chapter as a whole was recognized for its dedication and activity throughout the year. Nixya'awii Community School was officially designated as a "Champion Chapter" at the conference. We were proud to accept a certificate honoring this achievement, which highlights our commitment to service, leadership, and the core values of FBLA.
For all three attendees, this was their first time participating in the state-level conference. Despite being newcomers to the event, the students navigated the high-pressure environment with grace and ambition. The experience was so transformative that their primary regret was a simple one: not joining sooner.

Congratulations: We are incredibly proud to announce that Brody Kenney, one of our first-year competitors, secured placements in two competitive events: Journalism: 6th place and Business Law 10th place. There were over 50 other Oregon schools in attendance at the 2026 FBLA State Business Leadership Conference.
The NCS FBLA chapter was proudly presented with a check yesterday during the state send-off celebration. We extend our sincere gratitude to Cayuse Native Solutions for their generous donation and support of our club. Best of luck to our FBLA state qualifiers this weekend. Go Golden Eagles!

ODOT’s High School to Highway round 3 provides valuable opportunities for recent high school graduates to explore careers in transportation, gain hands-on experience, and build connections within our workforce. Monthly salary $3,952.00. Candidates must have graduated withing the last 2 years and have a valid driver’s license. Deadline to apply 4/23/26. The senior class is selling raffle tickets for a 3x6 foot above ground planter box made by the NCS construction class and Mr. Brandsen. Each ticket is $5 and the drawing will be help April 17th with local delivery available on that day. Help support the class of 2026!
